Health, Safety and Environment
In Health, Safety & Environment (HSE), we ensure the safety and reliability of PETRONAS’ operations. Amongst others, we develop HSE Standards and documentations, monitor effective implementation of HSE Policies / Standards / Procedures, facilitate and conduct HSE assurances, studies and reviews, perform incident investigations and HSE training, manage crisis and emergencies, act as liaison with authorities, provide advice to stakeholders and raise public awareness.

The people who work in this job area are meticulous, reliable and detail oriented, with analytical skills to develop recommendations for effective and practical solutions. Our success is measured by achieving high HSE performance, successful implementation of HSE functions and acquiring high morale of our employees. To ensure achievement of these key success measures, PETRONAS provides the opportunity for staff to grow and advance through its job policy and a structured development and career advancement programme.

MEET AN EMPLOYEE IN THIS JOB AREA

Sim Mong Chai
Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

In my current role, I help to develop health and safety standards for various working environments within PETRONAS. I also assess PETRONAS’ facilities to ensure compliance with these standards, and am responsible for training the trainers and teams assigned to implement them.

Over the last 21 years with PETRONAS, I have also had the opportunity to work in various departments, ranging from engineering to human resource management. As a fully integrated oil and gas company, PETRONAS offers a lot of opportunities to its employees. It has allowed me to transition between widely differing fields without ever leaving the organisation, and provided me with the necessary training to help me develop my capabilities.

No matter what role I play, there is always a profound sense of job satisfaction. This comes not just from the knowledge that I am a highly-valued member of the team, but also from an overarching belief in PETRONAS' core values which closely mirror my own.

I am grateful for the growth I experienced with PETRONAS, immensely proud of what it has achieved over the years and hope to contribute even more towards helping it achieve its goal of becoming an oil and gas multinational of choice.
