I consider myself fortunate to be given the opportunity by PETRONAS to further my studies in Imperial College London, United Kingdom. It is an equally great privilege to be working for PETRONAS, the company that I had always considered as my preferred employer for its international standing and career opportunities.
The scope of work for an engineer with PETRONAS is varied and stimulating. My job involves structural engineering activities which include contracting strategy, design, fabrication and installation. This position provides great and fulfilling challenges everyday – for example, we also have to attain cross-disciplinary knowledge like costing and scheduling.
Thus far, the working experience is far more exciting and rewarding than I’ve ever imagined. It has helped to nourish me into a well-rounded engineer who is technically capable yet well versed with commercial aspects of the business.
PETRONAS is very committed to training young executives to reach a professional level in the shortest duration possible, especially now with the implementation of the Accelerated Capability Development (ACD) programme. Coupled with the size of the organisation, I do feel that prospects for career advancement in PETRONAS are aplenty.
I feel PETRONAS provides an ideal platform for self-development. It’s up to respective employees to take up the challenges and opportunities.
