I coordinate and control maintenance activities within the “Process Area” at the Gas Processing Plant “B” for three disciplines - Electrical, Mechanical and Instrument.
I love that the role constantly challenges me to go outside my comfort zone. Being a good electrical engineer goes beyond focusing on the electrical equipment and issues. It also means getting to know your plant’s production and business, what is critical for its operations, and having knowledge in areas outside your own like other engineering fields and even Finance. I also appreciate the need to engage with different groups of people - technicians, my superiors, peers and subordinates.
It has been a very educational experience so far. It has opened up my view of the world. Previously, my worldview conformed to certain norms, but now, I’ve learnt to see things from many different perspectives. Terengganu, the place where I’m currently based, is steeped in a different culture than what I’m used to, teaching me to adapt, understand and empathise better. I would say that being here has given me a more global view than being in Kuala Lumpur or the U.K. where I studied.
I feel that there are many opportunities available, especially when it comes to my prospects within PETRONAS. The organisation constantly strives to be better and its corporate culture reflects that. This, in turn, encourages all of us to build successful careers. I am confident that I am able to achieve great heights here.
