Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering in PETRONAS covers a broad spectrum of the business ranging from plant maintenance to Subsea Engineering. In plant operations, our mechanical engineers play an eminent role in maintenance and project implementation to ensure plant availability and reliability which in turn, contributes to operational performance of the business.

Our engineers are expected to demonstrate competency and knowledge in various equipment services which will underscore the ability to interface effectively with other disciplines within the business. Problem solving and decision making skills are also essential requirements. Our mechanical engineers will need to work with best-in-class suppliers and advanced technology in rotating equipment such as gas turbines, compressors and high temperature reactors; in the process, our engineers undergo continuous skill development and learning.

The Mechanical Engineering job area comprises these sub-disciplines:

Mechanical Engineering
  For any assigned project, I ensure that all mechanical engineering work is in compliance with applicable design engineering codes and standards, project and safety requirements on top of statuary and regulatory requirements, whilst maintaining prudent practices. For example, I have to assess and review relevant engineering issues to ensure that projects are completed timely and in the most cost effective manner.

My job has provided a good platform for me to enhance my interpersonal skills as well as to develop my competency as a Mechanical Engineer. The experience has definitely helped me to improve my problem-solving and decision-making skills when facing daily job challenges. I have realised that you have to work hard in order to reduce any competency gaps. The commitment towards what you do and ability to deliver are what earn the respect of peers, employees and bosses.


In engineering design, I am able to further develop my analytical aptitude and improve my technical knowledge during the various stages of any assigned project. I am grateful that I am given the chance to grow as an engineer with PETRONAS. PETRONAS is the best place for me to work, as it is well suited to my personal interest and aligned with my career ambition.
