I started off my career in Health, Safety and Environment (HSE), where I was part of the team responsible for ensuring the safety of the PETRONAS Penapisan Melaka Sdn Bhd plant. Venturing into a new field for me was awkward at first. With the motivation and support from supervisors and colleagues, however, I adapted well to the new workplace. It was the people around me that made my job a rewarding experience.
Recently, I moved to Operations and assumed responsibilities in a job area that I’m more familiar with. Being the Assistant Operations Engineer, I’m required to assist the Operations Team in troubleshooting issues and ensuring that the operations of the Crude or Vacuum Distillation Unit (CDU/VDU), and the LPG, Naphtha & Kerosene Treating Units are smooth and efficient to generate the desired products.
I like the fact that the plant is a rich learning environment. I have the opportunity to learn about instrumentations (like control valves and flow elements), mechanical areas (like pumps and compressors) and get involved with the construction of new equipment. By learning new things everyday, I get job satisfaction.
I’m optimistic about my career here, as a lot of effort has been taken by PETRONAS in creating opportunities even for the younger generation. With support from superiors and colleagues, this instills self-confidence at an early stage that will accelerate one’s capabilities and potential.
PETRONAS is a place where learning never ends. With the support from experienced staff in the workforce, I am able to gain valuable knowledge and capitalise on their valuable experience. With PETRONAS’ staff continuously upholding the organisation’s shared values, I’m very sure that this is the best career platform anyone can be on.
